FOA: Early Career Research Program
Summary
SC invites grant applications for support under the Early Career Research Program in the following program areas: Advanced Scientific Computing Research (ASCR); Biological and Environmental Research (BER); Basic Energy Sciences (BES), Fusion Energy Sciences (FES); High Energy Physics (HEP), and Nuclear Physics (NP).
BER is seeking Biological Systems Science research in the following area: (a) Fundamental Systems Biology-Driven Research to Enable Advanced Biofuels and Bioproducts Production. Applications are requested for systems biology research to advance the development of emerging model microorganisms and/or microbial communities relevant for the production of biofuels and/or bioproducts directly from light or by conversion of lignocellulosic biomass. Applications that propose multi-omics approaches coupled with advanced predictive modeling and highthroughput screening to understand biological systems with novel functional capabilities and biosynthetic potential are encouraged. Proposed studies could include but are not limited to: elucidation of relevant regulatory and metabolic networks or environmental signal processing related to product synthesis by microbes or multispecies consortia; development of genetic tools to facilitate the study and manipulation of emerging microbial model systems; and understanding and modification of phenotypes involved in the synthesis of biofuel and bioproduct precursors, deconstruction of plant cell wall biomass, and/or tolerance to stresses induced by altered biosynthetic pathways or culture conditions.
